Comfort Care Quilts at UW Medicine Seattle, Washington
Comfort Care Quilts are handmade gifts created for patients and families facing end-of-life at UW Medicine and Harborview hospitals. This volunteer-driven project is part of a broader initiative to provide compassionate end-of-life care for patients and families, as well as support clinician resilience.

Who are we?
Our group began in 2012 with seven members who completed nine quilts at a gathering, now termed a “Sew Fest”. Today, we have over 30 active members who complete 50 to 60 quilts at each Sew Fest, donating over 400 annually.
We are all volunteers who are current and/or retired hospital staff, and our family members and friends. Everyone is welcome to join!
What do we do?
We make lap-sized quilts for patients receiving end-of-life care at UW Medicine – Montlake and Harborview Medical Center. Each quilt is a one-of-a-kind expression of comfort.
These quilts are stocked in hospital units and selected by clinicians who learn about the patient’s life, interests, and preferences. Often, the chosen quilt reflects a deeply personal match that brings joy, memories, and dignity to a patient’s final days.
Get involved!
There are many ways to contribute—no matter your sewing skills! Create quilt tops using your own materials or request a pre-cut kit. Our volunteers will complete the quilting if needed.
Join us at a Sew Fest at UWMC – Montlake or Harborview several times per year, which require no sewing skills to contribute.
